Historic Wiltshire Golf Course Unveils Redesigned First Hole Ahead of Major Tournament

WILTSHIRE, UK – Kingsdown Golf Club, one of the oldest golf courses in the South West, has officially unveiled its newly redesigned first hole ahead of the prestigious Jock Lawrence senior scratch golfer tournament, scheduled for April 16 and 17.

The redesign aims to provide “greater protection” to the road running parallel to the hole. As part of the changes, the fairway has been shifted approximately 10 yards to the right, and a newly contoured bunker complex has been introduced on the left-hand side. Additionally, two existing bunkers near the green have been replaced with a larger sand trap.

Club chairman Richard Talbot emphasized the club’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its reputation as it nears a significant milestone in its history.

“This last six months has not only seen us redesign our first hole, but also carry out improvements and modifications on four other holes, as well as undertake a significant program of care and maintenance on our trees across the course,” Talbot stated.

The Jock Lawrence tournament, named after one of Wiltshire’s most renowned amateur golfers and a former Kingsdown member, attracts competitors from across the South West and beyond.

Organizers have confirmed that spots remain available for senior golfers eager to test their skills on Kingsdown’s newly revamped first hole.
